Gods & Monsters
Release Date: March 1, 2019
Rue Snider’s cover of Gods & Monsters by Lana Del Rey presents her electronic masterpiece as an unabashed guitar rock song. The sound is akin to the 90s output of bands like Dinosaur Jr., Bob Mould, Superchunk, and King’s X. Snider’s very public love for Del Rey’s music lead to him covering Gods & Monsters acoustic at New York shows throughout 2017 where it was warmly received and gave a unique spin to her writing. While recording his latest 80s-inspired record City Living at The Bomb Shelter in Nashville, Rue decided to put a very loud version of the song to tape rather than record it acoustic. This utilized an entirely different sonic palette than the Smiths/Cure/R.E.M. vibe of the album proper and secured the track’s place as a stand alone release. It features Paige England on BGVs.
The song was produced by Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Langhorne Slim, Hurray for the Riff Raff).
Rue has toured the country extensively playing bars and coffee shops in thirty-seven states. He’s built a loyal fan base one show at a time and amassed an impressive catalogue of music. He has released three records, four EPs, two digital seven inches, and six music videos, five of which he directed and edited. The video for his song "Heaven" was shot with a drone in 2014 and won Best Music Video at the Sene Film Fest. His song, "Speak My Mind" was chosen as part of the political project, "1,000 Days, 1,000 Songs."
