This is a transcript of exactly what happened at the show. (silence) = absence of sound, clapping, laughter, eye contact, or acknowledgment that anything is happening through a microphone or with a guitar.

“There’s totally live music tonight you guys. How’s it going? My name is Rue Snider. I’m from Brooklyn, NY. I’ve been on the road since September 1. I’m gonna play some songs for ya. While you do your stuff.”

(silence)

I play Thread

(silence)

“Thanks. Thanks to Wes.”

(silence)

Referring to the GIANT bag on the table directly in front of me with the name Chloe sewn on it, “I think the first thing we’ve gotta sort out is if Chloe is still here because she’s got a giant goddamn bag that’s been abandon. I’m from New York City. If you left a bag like this on a table there would be squad cars and shit.”

(silence)

“No Chloe? Interesting.”

(silence)

I play Euryphaessa

(silence)

“Thank you. Again my name’s Rue, from New York City.”

(silence)

“There’s really no Chloe here, huh? Cuz this is a big goddamn bag.”

(silence)

“I wonder what’s in the bag. I wonder if Chloe stuffed a baby in there. Could be. It’s big enough for a baby.”

(silence)

“You gotta ask yourself, ‘Why would Chloe be carrying around a baby in a bag with a zipper? Why would she leave it in a coffee shop?’ It could be considered criminal. Probably.”

(silence)

I play Mountaintop

(silence)

“Oh my god there’s another song!”

(silence)

“So we really don’t know what Chloe put in this bag. It could be like a HUGE red bag full of cocaine. It’s possible. Again, why would Chloe have so much goddamn cocaine?”

(silence)

“Chloe is not the kind of name I expect to be a cocaine smuggler. Or distributor. But you never know. Maybe the name is just monogrammed on the bag to throw us off.”

(silence)

“Whatever it is I’m pretty sure Chloe is gonna be pissed when she finds out she left it here.”

(silence)

I play Sometimes I Try To Fight

(silence)

“Thanks”

(silence)

I make up a song about Chloe’s bag that goes like this:

Hey Chloe why’d you go and leave your bag here/It’s really red and big and I don’t know how long it will stay/Hey Chloe did you fill it up with dollars and baby parts/Did you fill it up with candles and cake to feed all the team/Chloe you left your big red bag on the table downstairs/I wonder why you left it there

(silence)

I play Blackout

(protracted silence)

“Hi energy bunch.”

(silence)

“My name’s Rue Snider. I’m from Brooklyn, NY. I still don’t know who Chloe is or why she left her bag here. It’s super weird and at this point it’s like awkwardly weird cuz I’ve said it like ten times.”

(silence)

“Hm. Alright then. I’m on tour. I’ve been out since September 1, I’ll just tell you a little bit about myself. Uh, I’m a Leo. I’m staying with a woman in Frisco there’s a giant fucking pool there. It’s too cold to swim though. But I can make my friends jealous with pictures.”

(silence)

A barista comes out and picks up the big red bag.

“AHH! Chloe’s bag has been claimed!”

(silence)

“I wonder if it’s full of cocaine.”

(silence)

I play 23 Days

(silence)

“There you go.”

(silence)

I play a slow version of Love You Forever

(silence)

“Alright then.”

(silence)

“Slightly antagonistic relationship we have.”

(silence)

“I’m staying at a place with two chihuahuas. And they love me. It’s pretty cool. I keep asking them to say ‘yo quiero taco bell.’ The owner keeps getting pissed.”

(silence)

I play Goodbye Amy

(silence)

“crickets crickets crickets crickets”

(several minutes of silence)

I strum the beginning of La Cienga Just Smiled

(silence)

“I don’t you guys. It’s not working out for either of us.”

(silence)

I play Never Met a Girl I Didn’t Love

(silence)

I pack and leave.
